Globe is accelerating the rollout of its 5G-capable in-building solutions (IBS) to provide quality indoor coverage in key tourism-related destinations such as airports, shopping malls, and stadiums. This is amid looser community quarantine measures given the steady decline in COVID-19 cases.
IBS is used to extend and distribute cellular signals within a building or structure. Globe has successfully rolled out 5G IBS at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1, 3, and 4, as well as the Newport Mall, Riverbank Mall, SM Mall of Asia Annex, office-retail W City Center, Philippine Arena, and New Clark City Athletic Stadium.
With the gradual reopening of international and local destinations, Globe is ramping up its services in tourist-related facilities to provide a better customer experience. Tourism is expected to rebound as lockdown measures are eased nationwide.
Globe has also activated 5G IBS at the House of Representatives complex, Legislative Library Building, Speaker Ramon V. Mitra Building, Marikina City Hall, MAAX, The Globe Tower, and 917Ventures office. From January to September this year, Globe has completed 73 IBS to provide high-quality indoor coverage.
“Our network rollouts and upgrades remain on track. We also see to it that we equip existing structures with the right technology for better and consistent coverage indoors,” said Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.
Aside from ramping up the rollout of 4G LTE nationwide, Globe is also busy expanding its 5G coverage. 5G is the latest mobile technology, offering ultra-low latency, greater bandwidth, and superior network reliability.
Globe has over 1,900 5G locations across the country as of end-September, mostly located in major urban centers. It also has 95 percent outdoor coverage in the National Capital Region. Globe also accelerated cell site builds.
Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG No. 9, which emphasizes the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe is committed to upholding the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
