PhNOG Conference 2017: Our Philippine Internet

March 6 @ 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

The theme “Our Philippine Internet” embodies everyone’s contribution to the growth and evolution of Philippine Internet ecosystem including infrastructure, policy, and foreign local support interventions among others. The conference will form part of a discourse discussing issues that affect the issues peculiar to the Philippines. The engaging format will allow a continuing conversation among varied actors working in the Internet development environment. Sessions are designed to reach out to common interests, and people can network with organizations on thematic areas.

Technical organizations such as the Philippine Network Operators’ Group have strategic roles to play in coordination with governmental bodies in terms of policies, standards and adoption of best practices. Collaboration is aimed to establish, sustain and monitor growing international linkages with foreign governments, industries, academic institutions and civil society organizations. Such involves representation and capacity-building activities, with broadband connectivity (access, ubiquity, quality) as an important driver for economic sustenance of a nation. Getting rid of disparate efforts brings to light collaboration as a key imperative into attaining sustained progress.

Counterintuitive to the school of thought in advancing solutions in broadband connectivity, it is undeniable that there is a lack of viable commercial deployment data that can act as baseline and benchmark into formulating effective, progressive and scalable connectivity options. As an empirical basis to policy formulation as well, such data, or its lack thereof, are needed to tie together the story of creating a broadband ecosystem.

In terms of telecommunications planning, it is imperative that governments and other concerned stakeholders talk about audit and assessment of infrastructure, mapping network coverage, and inventory of available bandwidth in terms of capacity, redundancy, traffic routing and data integrity, among others.
