Makati City, Philippines – The future of work in Analytics is a step closer for the Filipino labor force, as A Future that Works (AFW), a program supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in partnership with Philippine Business for Education (PBEd) and Analytics Association of the Philippines (AAP), launches the 2022 Philippines Analytics Sector Labor Market Intelligence (LMI) Report.
“Relevant, accurate and timely LMI is crucial in building a skilled and resilient workforce that spurs economic recovery, as we navigate a rapidly changing and increasingly automated and digitalized workforce. Australia is a strong supporter in the development of the Filipino workforce through our education programs. This cooperation is made stronger by our partnership with the private sector, such as with PBEd. Reflecting a new phase in our education cooperation, we collaborated with PBEd for A Future that Works.” said Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, HE Steven J Robinson AO.
LMI reports provide a holistic overview of the supply, demand, and mismatch of skills in the Philippine labor sector. Three emerging sectors, Analytics, Semiconductor and Electronics, and Fruit and Vegetable Processing, were supported by AFW to conduct research to produce comprehensive assessments and analyses of the sectors’ labor markets. Among these three, the Analytics sector is relatively young and job roles and descriptions remain unclear and not well-defined. Labor Market Intelligence showcases the future of work in this growing sector and recommends covering foreseen gaps.
“Data is the new career. The Analytics jobs sector finally comes of age with this important work, brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and accelerated by the COVID pandemic.” stated Dominic Ligot, Founder & Chief Technological Officer of CirroLytix Research Services, who provided the LMI presentation on the Analytics Sector.
This program spearheads meaningful collaboration among government, industry, and academe. TESDA Secretary Sec. Isidro Lapeña, DICT-IIDB Director Emmy Lou Delfin, IBPAP President & CEO Jack Madrid, MAP President Fred Pascual, PMAP Trustee Penny Bongato, Accenture Managing Director JP Palpallatoc, UST Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Cheryl Peralta, and Eskwelabs Co-Founder & CTO Caleb Tutty took part in the launch by sharing their insights on the LMI analytics report.
“Through an agreement with TESDA establishing AAP as the Industry Board for Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, AAP will be using the LMI study to help develop job-ready and job-fit technical and vocational graduates for the sector,” said Sherwin Pelayo, AAP Executive Director. “Similarly, the LMI study will be used in the creation of the Philippines Skills Framework for Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence through an agreement between AAP and the DICT-ICT Industry Development Bureau,” Pelayo added.
“Being one of the first three sectors skills council that will launch its LMI report, AAP is paving the way for greater and sustained collaboration, between government, industry, schools, NGOs like PBEd, and importantly, jobseekers. Ultimately, what we want is for every Filipino to get those high-demand and high-paying jobs that will get them and their families a decent and comfortable life. We believe jobs in the analytics sector are exactly the kinds of job that will make that hope a reality.” said Lovelaine Basillote, PBEd Executive Director.
Furthering AAP’s 2022 programs, this landmark LMI study will be available for public access allowing individuals to contribute their insights to the emerging data for the Analytics sector. The study will be available and downloadable in a mobile application and a website launching later this year.
