TensorFlow is an open-source software library for Machine Intelligence. It is being used to power a number of Google services involving various perceptual and natural language understanding tasks. The library of algorithms allows computer systems to mimic human’s ability to learn and reason. TensorFlow was originally developed by researchers working on the Google Brain Team with Google’s Machine Intelligence research organization.
This lecture provides a quick overview of the background and functionalities of TensorFlow, as well as its wide array of application areas. Basic concepts needed to give you a head start in using the library will also be covered.
Machine Learning for Dummies?
Yeah, why not. If you google “machine learning,” the top-ranked result will say it is “a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides computers with the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.”
But what does it all mean exactly? Let’s find out together the current state of Machine Learning from Franco Eisma, Cloud Crusader at Google. He’ll walk us through the meaning and impact of Machine Learning to organisations, jobs, society as a whole , and what can we expect from future services.
Who should attend? While open to the #startupPH community, we’d like to make a special shoutout to tech and product teams!
We’re re-stocking the fridge, help us empty it while swapping stories with old friends or making new friends.

Data Science Philippines and DMAIPH are proud to present our February meetup!
We’ll start with a machine learning model built by the team at Trend Micro Philippines, then dive into a discussion led by Dan Meyer regarding the local data science talent pool.
Talk 1: Utilizing Machine Learning to Classify Ransomware Using In-the-Wild Information
The talk will describe a machine learning model for classifying ransomware according to their family using various in-the-wild malware information. This will cover a general description of the dataset, features, and algorithm used to classify the malware. Also, the speakers will share their experience on developing an effective classifier given a short amount of time.
Talk 1 – Speakers
Robert Tacbad is a Threat Response Engineer at Trend Micro Inc. He is currently working on clustering malware samples based on their behavior. He is a BS Applied Physics graduate from UP Diliman.
Joy Avelino is a Threat Response QA Engineer at Trend Micro Inc. She facilitates the review, testing, and release of patterns to detect malware. Joy finished her undergraduate studies at UP Diliman with a degree of Computer Science.
Talk 2: So Just How Many Data Scientists Are There In The Philippines Anyway?
It’s true that Data Scientist is one of the sexiest jobs of the 21 Century. But how many data scientists are there actually here in the country? And how many more are needed to meet the surging demand? Join a discussion on the current and future state of data science in the Philippines.
Talk 2 – Speaker
Daniel Meyer, Analytics Champion and CEO of DMAIPH.
Dan specializes in a variety of analytics themed training and speaking option including HR& Recruitment Analytics, Data Analytics, Data-Driven Decision-Making and Analytics for CEO’s. Prior to DMAIPH, Dan was a Senior Analytics Consultant at Wells Fargo.
RSVP essential. Arrive at 6:30pm for a 7pm start.
